Having a pretty exciting week here at the farm--
My two-year old gelding (Sherman, the Bay Boy Wonder!) is really stepping up his thinking and his physical presence in his lunge line work. It's remarkable to have him "get it" and choose to work, choose to find the way to carry himself, and to look for contact with the bit...all with just a bit of encouragement and regularity. That's cool!
And then, today, we had a great session with his older brother, Sonny (aka "Fabio"-- he of the miraculous mane!), who is a seasoned veteran on the lunge, a pro at long-lining, but ready for more. Today he actually begged to be ridden. He would not move forward on the lunge; he dragged his feet while long-lining, and actually stopped at the mounting block more than once!
So, Pat (trainer extraordinaire!) mounted up, and away he went. Worked a full lunge-line session, under saddle, like he's been doing it for months. Relaxed, forward, happy, and responsive to the aids. Like nothing but a thing.
So much satisfaction here in working with the youngsters...what joy!
